¿NECESITA AYUDA?

DOES HE NEED HELP?

Human being needs help since he is born in order to survive, in addition to having one of the longer upbringing periods of all living beings.
But this help is especially important in the mental illnesses and in the cases of addictions. In both cases the patient is unconscious of his or her illness and often will deny treatment.
I remember the case of an under aged kid who was addicted to smoking joints. He would say he was very lucky because at 12 o’clock every night he could communicate with God through his computer. The problem wasn’t only in the interlocutor, but also the computer was off and, as his parents told us while crying, the house didn’t even have Internet.
When we proposed the treatment to the kid, he thought we wanted to separate him from God; so, he refused the treatment. Moreover, he claimed that he wasn’t damaging anyone, given that he only needed some joints and his conversations to remain happy.
We had to work a lot, above all with his family. First assuring the family that their son could be treated even though he was ill. We worked with the parents to defeat the resistances with the kid for treatment.
It might seem strange, but there is research that suggests that regular consumers of alcohol, cocaine, joints, etc., have more than a 60% probability of developing a mental disease.
The experts in health care know that it is absolutely crucial to work and support the families, since they are the ones that are with the patients 24 hours a day, who hope for the recovery, and who will be with that person for the rest of their lives. The nurses will try to do our best, but the families will always be there.
I hope this simple article serves as a tribute to all those mothers, fathers, husbands, wives and siblings who are supporting a person with such addictive or mental disease.
With this, I would like to remind you that October the 10th we celebrate the World Day of Mental Health.

Best wishes for all of them.
