EFECTO MANADA

HERD’S EFFECT

Some days ago, I saw an article in the newspaper quantifying 350 men into 101 herds, who were being judged by sexual aggression in group.

The main question we may ask is: what is happening to our teenagers?

A long time ago the affective/sexual initiation started with the first kiss. With the age’s hormonal shock, all of us wanted to know a little more about sexuality, a complete censured and forbidden world.

If you wanted to see a naked body, you had to buy some magazine such as ‘Interviú’, the castrated copy of American’s playboy.

If you wanted more, you had to rent a porn movie or go to a cinema dedicated to these topics. It was like a crash between the non-existing sexual education and the biological explosion. Needless to say that you could only access to this material if you were over 18.

But with the arrival of the Internet, everything has changed: nowadays the main question in any conference about technologies and kids is: at what age should I buy a mobile phone to my child?

It seems like the age could teach our children the rules and limits about technologies, or about which contents are suitable for them and which ones not.

If nobody teaches them, other people with commercial interests will, and here is where pornography plays its role.

Not a single parent in his right mind would let his little son watch a terror movie, because it is not adequate for his age, in the same way that it would not be suitable for him to watch a porn movie. But if he has access to a mobile phone, we have to instruct him about what he or she is going to discover.

I suppose that, as parents, we cannot be so simple to think that when our kids see a banner with the image of a girl or a boy naked and the message says ‘if you are underage do not click the button’, they are not going to press; but in their intimacy, when nobody can see them, they will surely press it and will have access to the forbidden world.

The problem does not stop here. Our teenagers are reproducing stereotypes of those movies in their real lives:

  • Shaved bodies
  • Relationships where the main aim is the male’s end, and where the woman is just a receptacle, with no possibilities of enjoying.
  • Relationships without condom. These ones are increasing alarmingly, and with them the risk of unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
  • There is a higher demand of the morning-after pill as a contraceptive method.
  • The idea that any woman is available of being ‘fucked’, and here is where herds appear.

When Superman was projected for the first time, everyone (parents, teachers) tried to explain our children that you are not able to fly even if you wear a red cape, that this is just a fantasy.

Why can’t we do the same thing, even if the protagonists do not wear a cape? Rather, they wear nothing.
